The newborn girl, who cried out at a Faridpur graveyard minutes before her burial on Thursday, was flown to Dhaka yesterday for better treatment.

Galiba Hayat was brought to the capital on a helicopter along with her father, grandfather, and a nurse around 7:30pm, Shamimul Haque, an uncle of Galiba, told our Faridpur correspondent.

She is now undergoing treatment at the Neonatal Incentive Care Unit (NICU) of Square Hospitals, said hospital sources.

Eight people, including a three-year-old girl, were hurt in a shooting that Baltimore police called an act of "retaliatory violence" on Saturday night, authorities said. A spokesman of the Baltimore Police Department told reporters at a news conference that the shooting appeared to be in response to a fatal shooting on Labor Day that left one person dead and others injured.

Residents in Syria's battleground city of Aleppo cowered indoors yesterday as fierce air strikes toppled buildings and killed at least 45 civilians, after diplomatic efforts to revive a ceasefire failed. Nearly two million civilians were left without water in the devastated northern city after regime bombardment damaged a pumping station and rebels shut down another in retaliation, the United Nations said. More than 200 outsiders with no qualifications whatsoever provide various services to patients at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for money, sources said. They even stitch small cuts, when doctors and nurses are not around, administer drugs into nebulizers and do bandages on patients at different wards including the burn unit, the sources said. The issue has come to the forefront after a patient at the neurosurgery department of the hospital died on Friday allegedly after a man administered a drug into his nebulizer.

Actress Mahiya Mahi will be making her return to films with Badiul Alam Khokon's “Haarjeet” after a two-and-a-half-month break. The actress took a break from the industry and spent time with her family.
